It’s surprising how much more relaxed you are with your second child, we had booked a last minute, quick weekend away as a family of 4 to the Lake District and up until 3 or 4 days before – we had completely forgotten to think about where our 7-Week-Old Baby Girl was going to sleep!
Thankfully we managed to get a Travel Cot just in time, cue the Micralite Sleep & Go Travel Cot!
Maya sleeps in her Shnuggle Air Bedside Crib at Night and we love it, Maya settled right in from the very first night and it was a worry that the sudden change to where she was sleeping might have ruined her routine, but we needn’t have worried.
Opening the packaging you see a well put together and handy travel bag that houses the Micralite Sleep & Go Travel Cot Parts, you can tell the bag has been built to last; with a strong zip and stitching that won’t just burst open if the contents are not packed exactly as they were when they left the Micralite Factory!
Inside the Travel Bag, you have the folded cot frame, an infant insert, Mattress and a shoulder carry strap for the Bag.
The Cot has a lovely modern grey melange colour that will coordinate with any room style or colour and won’t become an eye sore after a few weeks!
Being a typical bloke, I didn’t read the instructions on how to set it up and surprisingly, I didn’t need them, the Micralite folding and snap lock mechanism is incredibly intuitive and I had the Micralite unfolded and in positions in a few seconds.
As Maya is only 7 weeks, we needed to use the infant insert, which easily attaches to the Cot Frame by a strong zip and a couple of pop studs. One of the great things about this insert is it has horizontal support bars which run the full width of the insert, providing rigid support for the mattress for even the wiggliest of babies (Maya).
A great deal of thought has gone into the mattress design, it looks and feels incredibly comfortable. The mattress can be used for older children without the insert and can be folded on itself (and doubled up) for use with the infant insert.
First Nights Sleep
The newborn insert of the Travel Cot Keeps Maya in a very similar position and height to her Shnuggle Air Bedside Crib and although it doesn’t have a ‘drop side’, the mesh fabric on either side allows her and you to easily see each other.
Maya slept really well in the travel cot from the very first night and the padded mattress and stability bars in the infant insert stopped her wiggling around into an uncomfortable looking position.
Maya loves Tummy Time, we removed the infant insert, unfolded the mattress and placed it at the bottom of the cot and she was off!
The mesh walls and pull-down flap have the added bonus of stopping our Dog, Marley from joining her for tummy time and inevitably trying to lick her face off!
Folding the travel cot away and removing the insert takes only a few seconds, the Travel Cot is incredibly easy to pack away, and you don’t need to have a degree in packing or a photographic memory of how it was originally packed, to get the contents back in the travel bag and zipped up. Win!
The Micralite Sleep & Go Travel Cot looks great and as rooms quickly get taken over by little people’s essentials (changing mats, play mats and toys), the Travel Cot won’t become an eye sore. The Travel Cot ticks all the right boxes and although we haven’t used it to its fullest (due to Maya’s Age), this is something that we could see ourselves using every day up to 6 months.
The Travel Cot is incredibly easy to fold/unfold and pack, making it a vital and maybe, the easiest part of travelling. The thick expanding Mattress looks and feels incredibly comfortable and helps to keep your little one in the same position.
The Micralite Sleep & Go Travel Cot has an RRP of £175 and has 3 in 1 play and sleep functionality. From a parent’s practicality and visual point of view it’s a thumbs up and Maya certainly approves!
